Differences Between Chiropractic, Osteopathy, and Physiotherapy

As a patient you perhaps would not notice much difference between a Chiropractic or an Osteopathic adjustment.

Both Chiropractors and Osteopaths use similar gentle hand movements (called adjustments) to correct the alignment of the joints to ease pain, improve function and restore the body back to health.
Historically speaking, Chiropractic has been known for relieving tension in the spine and pelvis. Today’s modern, holistic Chiropractor helps the body as a whole and your sessions will include adjustments as well as lifestyle and nutritional advice, exercises and muscle work.

The main difference between the two professions being that Chiropractors are trained to take and read x-rays, whilst Osteopaths are not.

Today’s modern Physiotherapist tends to focus and specialise in one aspect of physiotherapy, be that children, rehabilitation or sports for example. For ease of comparison here, physiotherapy mainly involves the prescription of exercises and physiotherapists tend to use modalities such as ultrasound, interferential machines and taping techniques, to name but a few.
